SEIB Winter Novice Championship Qualifier at Solihull Riding Club
Friday 03 October 2014

The qualification period for the SEIB Winter Novice Championship 2015 got underway today with the first of the qualifiers at Solihull Riding Club in Bentley Heath, West Midlands. The class proved to be popular and a total of eighty-one starters came forward to compete.
With just two qualifying places available for the SEIB Winter Novice Championship, which will be held at the Longines Royal International Horse Show during 28th July – 2nd August 2015, each of those starting out across the course were keen to produce a double clear to be in with a chance of taking home one of those qualifying places.
Spectators were treated to a competitive jump off with twenty-seven combinations all vying for a double clear. Six double clears were eventually produced and this meant that the top two qualifying spots were to be decided by the ever crucial clock.
The top spot went to 35 year-old Angela Thompson from Chipping Camden, Gloucestershire after she produced two faultless rounds on her own 7 year-old bay mare, Canberra Z. Drawn as the thirteenth combination to go in the jump off, a foot perfect round saw them cross the finish line in 37.23 seconds, a result which was to prove unbeatable.
Michael Jones, aged 45, from Lutterworth, Leicestershire took second place with his own 5 year-old bay mare, Elpaola. This combination also delivered a quick and accurate double clear to complete in 38.36 seconds.
