Rosie Collins Wins HOYS 128cms Qualifier at Weston Lawns Equitation Centre

Saturday 14 May 2016

Thirty-four talented pony and rider combinations came forward for Sunday’s HOYS 128cms Qualifier at Weston Lawns Equitation Centre in Bulkington, Warwickshire and it was 11 year-old Rosie Collins who took the eventual victory.

With just three places up for grabs for the HOYS 128cms Championship Final, which will run during the prestigious Horse of the Year Show in October, the final jump off was to prove ultra-competitive as the remaining four pairs battled it out for those qualification spots.

Rosie, who is from Rayleigh, Essex, delivered the fastest treble clear of this qualifier on Bradmore Mystique, a 20 year-old chestnut mare owned by Stuart Collins. Having been drawn as the second combination to go in the four horse jump off, Rosie knew that she would need to post a clear and fast round to be with a shot of winning the class and she duly delivered, securing a treble clear in 44.88 seconds.

Second place was taken by 9 year-old Poppy Deakin from Newcastle Upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear and she also posted a treble clear, securing hers on board Felicity Deakin’s 10 year-old chestnut gelding, Camizion. This combination clocked their treble clear up in 47.07 seconds.

Ten year-old Eloise Squibb from Brentwood, Essex took the third and final qualification place with Wyndham Tom Thumb, a 19 year-old grey gelding owned by Sarah Squibb. The combination rolled a pole at the second fence of the final jump off for four faults, but they maintained their composure to come home with all other fences still standing in 45.29 seconds.
