With only four Horse of the Year Show spots up for grabs in the Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Masters yesterday, competitors came ready to battle it out for that all important purple ticket.
The course at the British Showjumping National Championships proved difficult for many; however the class started with a bang in the Andrews Bowen Indoor Arena as Tabitha Dean set the bar with a fantastic first round. This impressive start only motivated other riders further with thirteen others flying around the course clear to send them through to the jump off.
It was 14 year-old Jodie Giles from Calne, Wiltshire who dominated yesterday’s jump off after being drawn first in with Julie Pratt’s 7 year-old skewbald mare Whos Bits N Pieces. The pace set by this combination proved to be unbeatable after they left all of the fences up in 32.37 seconds. They pipped the pairing of Millie Dickinson and Ron Burgundy by just 0.03 seconds.
