Oliver Tuff secures the Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Second Round win at Bicton Arena

On Saturday, Bicton Arena in Budleigh Salterton, Devon played host to a Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Second Round and it was Oliver Tuff who secured his place at the top of the leader board with three stylish clear rounds.

Fifty-four starters came forward to contest for the two Horse of the Year Show tickets on offer for this October’s Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Championship Final, and after two challenging rounds just twelve talented combinations remained to go head to head against the clock in the final jump-off.

Fourteen year-old Oliver Tuff from Totnes, Devon secured first place with Kerry Grimster’s 5 year-old grey mare, Heartbreaker Express II. Booking their place in the jump off with two quick and accurate clear rounds, this partnership continued their turn of speed to cross the finish line in 32.85 seconds, knocking 1.80 seconds off their nearest rival’s time.

Jumping in to second place was Cleo Loizzo, aged 14, from Thurcaston, Leicester riding Banner Girl, a 10 year-old grey roan mare owned by Charlie McDonald. This pair delivered their treble clear in 34.65 seconds.

The riders and ponies that finished in third to fifth took home the chance to compete in the Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Masters at the British Showjumping National Championships.
