NICK SKELTON FINISHES 3RD IN BBC SPORTS PERSONALITY OF THE YEAR

Huge congratulations go to Nick Skelton who finished 3rd at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year (SPOTY) Awards this evening.

We couldn’t be more proud of what Nick has achieved for the sport during 2016.  He made history by winning the first Individual Gold the sport has ever seen when he rode Big Star, owned by Gary & Beverley Widdowson, to victory at Rio 2016.

At the age of 58 years and having recovered from a broken neck, Nick has been embraced by the nation as an inspiration to all that you should never give up on your sporting dreams.  He has been an incredible advocate of the sport and we are absolutely delighted to see that the sport got behind Nick this evening and voted.

The title was won by Andy Murray, who announced that his wife had voted for Nick Skelton this evening during his acceptance speech, much to the amusement of those viewing and attending the event. Runner-up went to Alistair Brownlee.

We are privileged to have Nick represent us and would once again like to extend our congratulations for this evening's public acknowledgement of his sporting excellence.  Our best wishes also go to Sophie Christiansen who finished in 5th place behind Mo Farah making it a great day for British Equestrianism.
