Nick Skelton CBE nominated for the 2017 Laureus World Sport Awards

Yesterday saw Nick Skelton announced as a nominee, following a ballot by the world’s media,  for the Laureus Sport Awards which take place on the 14th February.

Included within the Laureus World Comeback of the Year Category, Nick is joined by swimmer Michael Phelps (USA), high-jumper Ruth Beitia (SPA), Davis Cup winner Juan Martin de Potro (ARG), triathlete Fabienne St Louis (ARG) and skier Aksel Lund Svindel (NOR).

Nick set the global media alight, inspiring multiple generations, when he won Individual Gold with Gary &  Beverley Widdowson’s bay stallion Big Star.  The first Individual Gold for GBR in the sport of showjumping, Nick drew considerable media interest having come back from a broken neck, amongst numerous other injuries, to make history for Great Britain at the age of 58 years.

Awarded a CBE in the 2017 New Year’s Honours List, the depth of respect that the nation has for Nick was also recognised when he was nominated for Sports Personality of the Year 2016 where he finished in the top three.

British Showjumping would like to extend their congratulations to Nick in his nomination and to wish him luck on the evening. Further information regarding the awards can be found at www.laureus.com
