Michael Whitaker Wins CSI5* 1.55m Copa Del Ray Trofeo El Corte Inglis at LGCT Madrid

GB’s Michael Whitaker from Whatton, Nottinghamshire ended his weekend at the LGCT Madrid with a win in the CSI5* 1.55m Copa Del Ray Trofeo El Corte Inglis on his own 14 year-old chestnut gelding Viking.
Michael and Viking fought off thirty-eight other challengers and in doing so; scooped the €24,750 first prize. Just ten horses and riders made it through to Sunday’s jump off and Michael was the only competitor able to break the 37.00 seconds barrier, finishing with a double clear in 36.95 seconds.
Christian Ahlmann from Germany took the runners up spot on Caribis Z after securing a double clear in 37.45 seconds. The podium was rounded off by Sweden’s Henrik von Eckermann, who was on board Sansibar 89. Their double clear came in 37.50 seconds.
