Matthew Sampson triumphs in the Connolly’s RED MILLS Senior Newcomers Second Round at Wales & West Shows

The Connolly’s RED MILLS Senior Newcomers Second Round at Wales & West Shows in Chepstow, Monmouthshire attracted a bumper field of 129 starters and it was Matthew Sampson who emerged triumphant.

With just two qualification spots on offer for the Connolly’s RED MILLS Senior Newcomers Championship Final, which will be held during this October’s Horse of the Year Show, all of the starting combinations were focused on securing a fast treble clear.

After the first two rounds, only seven competitors were able to access the jump off and Matthew Sampson from Sheffield, South Yorkshire delivered the fastest treble clear on board Exsultate Des Hayettes, an 8 year-old bay stallion owned by Harry Whall. The pair jumped with great turn of pace and accuracy to clock their third clear round in 42.84 seconds.

The riders and horses that finished in third to sixth took home the chance to compete in the Connolly’s RED MILLS Senior Newcomers Masters at the British Showjumping National Championships.
