Madison Jamison is Victorious in the Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Second Round at Arena UK

Fifteen year-old Madison Jamison finally achieved the goal she has chased all summer – qualifying for the Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Championship final held at this year’s Horse of the Year Show.  And she did it in fine style, winning the Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Second Round on Nicola Jamison’s Sweepstake to register her finalist place.

A big field of ninety-five tackled the first round and twenty-four provided first round clears, but the raised track also raised the nerves and pressure, and only three further clears were produced for the final jump-off.

Madison and Sweepstake have been consistently knocking on the door recently, just missing out on vital qualification with a third and sixth.  There was no doubt at Arena UK in Grantham, as Madison from Blackburn, Lancashire guiding the seven-year-old gelding to a flying finish in the final draw to take victory by 0.22 seconds.

It 15 year-old Robert Murphy from Preston Lancashire who scooped up the other two placings. His opening round on the Carpenter family’s Opto-Mist took second place. The 12-year-old gelding now has two HOYS finals to target after qualifying for the Squibb Group Pony Foxhunter Final at Weston Lawns.

Robert brought the 10-year-old gelding, Jumper, into third with a third treble clear, missing out on HOYS with his second ride by 1.15 seconds.  He gets another qualifying chance in the Pony Newcomer Masters at the National Championships, Stoneleigh, in August along with fourth-placed Sarah Mackmin, who provided the fastest four-fault round in round two on Hot Shot Bacardi, and Mya Roxburgh Caira, in fifth with Paddy’s Pet II.
