Lois Minns from Tyne and Wear claims the February NAF Shining Star Award

Thirteen year-old Lois Minns from Houghton le Spring, Tyne and Wear has been awarded the NAF Shining Star for February 2020. Lois was nominated by Sarah Tubbs, Co-Ordinator and Lead Coach for the Durham Academy.

Sarah nominated Lois for her commitment and resilience and she had the following to say about her nominee “After suffering the heartache of losing a pony through injury, Lois has had to start all over again. She has had a tough year but has built up a relationship with two very different ponies and has worked hard to improve her riding. Lois is hugely deserving of this award.”

After finding out she was the NAF Shining Star winner for February, Lois said “I am very pleased to have won the award, I feel like my hard work is paying off. I really enjoy being a part of the academy, everyone is so friendly and Sarah is very encouraging and has taught me so much. The sessions are varied and cover many areas of riding.

“I had many setbacks with my previous pony and I was disappointed I couldn’t compete much but things are going great with my new pony so fingers crossed this year will be a better one. I’m hoping 2020 will see us travelling around the county to compete.”

Lisa Field from NAF commented “We loved hearing all about Lois this month’s Shining Star. We have great admiration for her commitment especially after the heartache of losing her pony. We wish you all the best with your new pony, and good luck for 2020. Congratulations Lois, a very deserving Shining Star!”

Lois will now receive a number of NAF equine products to use alongside the extensive products she is already using which include Oestress, Electrolytes, Glucosamine, Instant Magic and NAF Off.

The NAF Shining Star Award was introduced when NAF became a British Showjumping Business Partner. The award is for members of a Junior Academy who have shown a great deal of commitment, progression and outstanding behaviour along with their riding ability and much more. Riders are nominated by their lead coach, and then judged and awarded by NAF to one person each month.
