July Showjumping cancelled at Wales & West

It is with regret that British Showumping must announce that all Showjumping at the Wales & West Showground in Monmouthshire has been cancelled.  This includes the scheduled Welsh Home Pony Show due to run between the 23 – 28 July.

This decision has been enforced by Environmental Health in Wales following advice received from Monmouthshire County Council.

Iain Graham, Chief Executive of British Showjumping said “To say we, alongside James Broome and his team at Wales and West, are disappointed would be a huge understatement.  James has been in ongoing communication with local authority representatives throughout the process so it has therefore come as devastating news to them that they are not now being granted permission to run in July.”

James Broome commented “We are continuing to work with the Local Authority and hope to see a resumption of competition within Monmouthshire in the near future. We are working with British Showjumping to see if we are able to run the Home Pony over some alternative dates.

“It was extremely upsetting news for the entire team here to find out we were not being granted permission to run.  Since their return from furlough they have all worked tirelessly preparing the showground with all the COVID-19 protocols in place so as to ensure everyone could enjoy a safe environment to compete in, and I am unable to applaud them enough for all their hard work.  Hopefully it will just be a matter of weeks until we are finally able to open our doors and welcome competitors back through them once again”.
