John Whitaker Wins €80,000 Munich Grand Prix alongside other British Wins in Europe

John Whitaker from Huddersfield, West Yorkshire with his and wife Clare’s 12-year old dark bay stallion Argento took the top spot in the CSI 3* 1.60m Munich Grand Prix yesterday (9TH November) for the second year in a row.
Forty-eight combinations came forward to contest this Grand Prix and twelve combinations made it into the jump off. Producing a foot perfect round in the jump off and stopping the clock in 40.47 seconds their performance was enough to ensure that they secured the title as their own along with the primary share of the €80,000 on offer.
Second place went to Ireland’s Denis Lynch with Quote Zavaan who finished just over a second slower. Swiss rider Christina Liebherr with L.B. Midship du Borda finished third.
We also had other British placing’s this weekend.
Laura Renwick from Essex partnering Colin Bates’ 7 year-old chestnut gelding Heliodor Hybris finished second in the CSI 2* Mijas (Spain) Grand Prix yesterday. They gained a double clear in 33.83 seconds just behind Spain’s Eduardo Alvarez Aznar.
Dutch based British rider Mark Bunting with the 9 year-old bay gelding Eurohill’s Alcatraz took the top spot in the CSI 2* Grand Prix which took place in Holland on Saturday 8th November. With less than a second dividing the top four, Mark gained his double clear in 39.13 seconds securing the win.
It was also a British one-two- three in the CSI 2* Oliva III Grand Prix that was held in Spain yesterday (9th November). Jessica Mendoza from Wiltshire with her mother Sarah’s 13 year-old brown mare Spirit T took first place after jumping double clear in 42.12 seconds. Spencer Roe from Lincolnshire with his mother Sally’s 11 year-old bay gelding Wonder Why took second place whilst Geoff Luckett from Warwickshire with Sharon Baldwin’s 9 year-old bay gelding Constant II took third.
