After a run of seconds this season, a delighted Joe Fernyhough from Stonehouse, Gloucestershire came from a late draw to capture the John Oates Horseboxes Under 25’s Two Phase on the second day of the Equitop Bolesworth Young Horse Championships.

The talented 18-year-old was thrilled to finish in winning position on the home-bred Calcourt Quicktime.

Taking second place was the in-form Georgia Tame, a winner in the previous day’s class on the big striding Jeff Ten Halvern, with James Winter and Garande claiming third.

Said Joe: “He’s a great horse and after so many seconds it was great to break the duck and get on the winner’s podium.

“After Under 18 teams we are now looking to Young Riders and keeping up the momentum.  We went in really wanting a win and everything went to plan which is great.

“The team at Bolesworth really put on a good show and there’s a lot of competition in the classes.”

Added Georgia: “I found it harder to go fast in the Castle Arena as he’s a big horse and takes a bit of manoeuvring so it was much easier to go faster in the International Arena with all the space.

“I’m really pleased with how he’s going and we’re having a great show.”

In third place and finishing in a time of 30.10 seconds was James Winter and the Dutch-bred, eight-year-old mare Garande just holding off another in-form rider William Fletcher and Emmerton, second in the opening day’s Under 25’s.

Said William: “I am really enjoying the show, the horses are jumping well and focused.”
