Home Nation win Aachen 5* Nations Cup

Thursday 20 July 2017

It was a win for Germany at their home nation top level CSIO 5* Nations Cup competition in Aachen earlier this evening.  The €310,000 Mercedes-Benz Nations Cup saw some incredible competition in the outstanding arena that hosted the European Championships in 2015 and the home crowd, who packed the grandstand couldn’t have been more ecstatic to be celebrating a home win.

The Germans had led from the start and finished on an incredible zero penalty score to take the lead ahead of the USA who finished on 8 penalties accrued in the first round alongside Switzerland who picked up the same but in the second round to share 2nd place.

For GB’s Team NAF it was a 7th place finish and not the best of competitions for them when anchor rider Guy Williams had to pull Titus up lame in the 1st round.  Down to three riders it meant that all scores would be counting leaving GB on the highest score of the competition to finish 7th just ahead of France who were unfortunately unable to put three riders forward in the second round to take 8th place.

Nigel Coupe, who took this year’s Hickstead Derby honours delivered the best round of the Brits to finish on 4 penalties in the first round and 8 in the next whilst Robert Smith picked up 9 penalties in both rounds.  Scott Brash with Ursula XII finished on 8 penalties in the first round along with 16 penalties in the second.
