GB Veterans win Large Tour AJA Team Competition at Valkenswaard

Thursday 19 July 2018

The first ever CSIV-B at Valkenswaard in The Netherlands saw the British Veterans head the Large Tour AJA Team Competition on Tuesday. Three of the team members recently featured as part of the NAF sponsored Gold medal winning European Championship Team and it was Anne Berry who joined them as the fourth team rider.

After round one, the British team led with a zero penalty score and they got off to a fantastic start in round two when both Catherine Fowdrey and Keith Stockdale returned with double clears on Emalia and Grauffs Clear Round respectively. Anne was then unfortunate to roll a pole at the last fence in her second round on Urio and this left the Brits equal with France and Belgium who were having a strong second round. It was then down to James Loffet on Ed Howard's Zandokan H in his usual position of anchorman to go clear to secure a victory which he duly accomplished to the cheers of a small but vocal British contingent! France ended up taking second place with the Belgians landing third.

In the AJA Europa Cup Grand Prix yesterday, Catherine Fowdrey earned second place after a fast and furious jump off. Both Catherine with Emalia and Keith Stockdale with Grauffs Clear Round were clear in their first round. All competitors jumped again around a shortened course and their scores for both rounds were added together with time in the second round deciding the final placings.

Jean Jacques Lorquet from Belgium was the eventual winner over the nine fences by covering the huge Tops Arena at a racing gallop. Catherine took up the challenge and was only a few hundredths of a second away from securing. Stefan Schewe from Germany was 3rd while Keith Stockdale finished in sixth with a double clear.
