Drew Walton & Megan Taylor Secure Charles Stanley Winter JA Classic Wins at Arena UK

Thursday 03 March 2016

Arena UK in Grantham, Lincolnshire was the latest venue to host a Winter 148cm Pony Premier Show and the Charles Stanley Winter JA Classic Qualifiers again proved to be one of the highlights.

Competition, as always, was fierce as only three qualifying places were available in each qualifier for the prestigious Charles Stanley Winter JA Classic Championship, which will be held during the Charles Stanley British Masters International Horse Show (1st - 3rd July 2016). Drew Walton and Megan Taylor showed their expertise beyond their years by taking both of the top spots available.

Charles Stanley Winter JA Classic Qualifier – Saturday 27th February 2016

Fifteen year-old Drew Walton from Preston, Lancashire took Saturday’s qualifier on board Kerri Walton’s 14 year old grey mare, Tequila Twist and this gave the pair their second Charles Stanley Winter JA Classic Qualifier win of the winter. From thirty-seven keen starters, Drew’s talent shone through as she was the only rider able to produce a treble clear over Neil Foster’s course and she achieved this in 45.89 seconds.

Second place was taken by 14 year old Ella Garlick from Nailsea, Bristol and she secured her place inside the top two on Julie Mansfield’s 16 year-old bay gelding Wild At Heart T. The combination finished on a total of 4 faults in 50.37 seconds after rolling an unfortunate pole towards the beginning of the jump off.

Flo Norris, aged 14, from Glastonbury, Somerset took third place with Nils D Hurl Vent, a 15 year-old bay gelding owned by Cisca Norris. Although the pair withdrew from the final jump off, their two immaculate rounds from earlier on the class ensured that they earned their place within the top three.
