Monday 06 October 2014

Moores Farm Equestrian Centre in Corse Lawn, Gloucestershire held a Dodson & Horrell 0.95cm National Amateur Second Round yesterday which was contested by twenty-nine combinations. Each of the starters were hoping to claim one of the twelve direct qualifying places on offer for the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Championships, which take place at Aintree Equestrian Centre in Liverpool during the 19th – 23rd November 2014.
The jump off saw thirteen combinations compete again and with just the twelve qualification spots available, each competitor was focused on securing a double clear. Eleven double clears were eventually produced and the two remaining combinations fought it out for that last place for the Championship Final.
Julie Milkins, aged 44 from Winscombe, Somerset was the eventual winner on board her own 16 year-old dark bay mare, Granita II. The combination was drawn sixth to go in the jump off and their double clear in 34.68 seconds ensured that they could not be beaten.
Second place went to 18 year-old Charlotte Morgan from Ruardean, Gloucestershire and she took her a top two spot on Jack Daniels IX, an 18 year-old strawberry roan gelding owned by Christine Wilce. Their double clear was secured in 35.00 seconds.
Kerys Evans, 28 from Credenhill, Herefordshire took third place with her own 9 year-old appaloosa gelding JC’s Mr Darcy. Delivery of a double clear in 36.94 seconds ensured the combination of a top three placing, giving them a spot in the Championship Final.
