Dodson & Horrell 0.85cm National Amateur Second Round at Bold Heath Equestrian Centre

The Dodson and Horrell 0.85cm National Amateur Second Rounds continued over the weekend (Sunday 19th October) at Bold Heath Equestrian Centre in Widnes, Cheshire.

Twenty-one combinations came forward to contest the second round and each of the starters were aiming to collect one of the twelve direct qualifying places on offer for the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Championships, which will take place at Aintree Equestrian Centre in Liverpool during the 19th – 23rd November 2014.

From all of the starting combinations, fifteen produced the first round clear required for a place in the jump off and eight went onto produce a double clear and with just the twelve qualification spots available it meant that the clock was to become crucial in deciding the final line-up and the allocation of the qualification places.

Victory in this second round was taken by 17 year-old Caroline Vernon from Whitchurch, Shropshire with her mother Sally’s 10 year-old bay gelding Cracker Jack II. The combination was drawn tenth to go in the jump off and they gained their double clear crossing the finish line in 30.75 seconds a time which proved to be unbeatable.

Second place went to Denise Parry (46) from Wrexham, Clwyd on her own 13 year-old brown mare Vote For Me. This combination secured their place in the line-up and championship final by gaining their double clear in 31.26 seconds.

14 year-old Kate Samuel from Tarporley, Cheshire took third place and she was on board Martha Newall’s 17 year-old bay mare Maddison IV. They produced their foot perfect double clear stopping the clock in 31.66 seconds.

A further nine combinations also went on to achieve their qualification for the Dodson & Horrell 0.85cm National Amateur Championship Final.
