Friday 03 June 2016

The second leg of the international Stairway took place at Suffolk County show yesterday, with Dale Burnham taking home the title on board Tim Howard’s 9 year-old bay mare, Romanella Gold.

As one of only four clears in the first round, Dale showed his talent as he marched into first place with the only double clear of the competition. Taking the time to be as accurate as possible around Paul Connor technical course, Dale did not post the fastest time, coming through the finish line in 65.11 seconds but he did leave all the poles standing to claim top spot.

Kerry Brennan and Wellignton M owned by Liane Smith took second place after posting the fastest 4 fault round, crossing the finish in a lightening time of 56.18 seconds. Third was secured by Keith Shore riding his own Mystic Hurricane. This pair also had a pole down in the closing stage of their jump off round to post a 4 fault time of 60.20 seconds.

The International Stairway takes place across a number of county shows where winning combinations accrue League Points that count towards the Final which takes place at the British Showjumping National Championships in August at Stoneleigh Park.  The series culminates with a high profile championships where three Horse of the Year Show International Wild Cards are allocated as well as it being where the sports National Champion is crowned.
