Cruz Furnell-Brennan from Berkshire is crowned November’s NAF Shining Star
Tuesday 12 November 2019

Thirteen year-old Cruz Furnell-Brennan from Slough, Berkshire has been awarded the NAF Shining Star Award for November after showing great attitude and progression within the academy environment. Cruz is a member of the Berkshire and Oxfordshire Junior Academy and was nominated by Lead Coach Sharon Quant.
“Cruz has been a member of the Berkshire and Oxfordshire Junior Academy for the past two years and is a great example of how the support and training within the academy can help develop young riders. Since joining the academy Cruz has progressed from jumping 70cm to jumping double clear and being placed in Pony Discovery classes as well as jumping clear rounds in all of his classes at the Academy show at Stoneleigh in August. Cruz is a great team player, he is really supportive of his team mates, polite and fun to be around” said Sharon.
After finding out he was the NAF Shining Star winner for November, Cruz said “I was shocked when my mum gave me the news that I had won the award. I am extremely happy that Sharon Quant, my coach, has nominated me and the recognition I have been given is great. All of my hard work and dedication with my pony is paying off. I really enjoy attending the academy, the training is really valuable and Sharon explains simplistically so you understand what you are doing and the training has helped me bond more with my pony Rid Mor Robert aka Bobby.
“There is a real team spirit that makes learning enjoyable, I have made loads of new friends from being with Berkshire and Oxfordshire Academy and everyone supports each other. My aim for the rest of the year and 2020 is to get all my double clears in British Novice and Discovery with Bobby, as next year I will probably be looking for a bigger pony/horse as I seem to be growing fast!”
Lisa Field from NAF commented “Cruz is extremely deserving of this month’s Shining Star Award. It is great to hear of his amazing progress to now be jumping double clears at Discovery with the support of the academy whilst also taking the time to support his team mates. Congratulations Cruz we wish you all the best for future.”
Cruz will now receive a number of NAF equine products to use alongside the products he is already using which include the Five Star Optimum Feed Balancer and Minty Treats.
The NAF Shining Star Award was introduced when NAF became a British Showjumping Business Partner. The award is for members of a Junior Academy who have shown a great deal of commitment, progression and outstanding behaviour along with their riding ability and much more. Riders are nominated by their lead coach, and then judged and awarded by NAF to one person each month.
