Brits take 3rd and 4th in the CSIO4* Grand Prix in Wellington
Sunday 06 March 2022

The CSIO4* week at Wellington (USA) came to a close this evening with a thrilling jump-off in the $216,000 1.60m Grand Prix. With just two double clears from the field of forty-seven starters. Both Ben Maher aboard Faltic HB and Amanda Derbyshire aboard Cornwall BH lowered one pole each in the eight strong jump-off but kept up the pace to be the fastest combinations on 4 penalties to finish third and fourth respectively. It was McClain Ward (USA) on HH Azur who took the victory with a double clear in 35.22 seconds, with Ioli Mytilineou (GRE) and her ride Levis De Muze hot on their heels, finishing second with a double clear in 36.84 seconds.
Amanda Derbyshire and the 14-year-old Cornwall BH, owned by Gochman Sport Horses, were the first combination to qualify for the jump-off by producing the first clear of the class. This saw them the first to come forward for final round where a touch of a tall vertical across the middle of the arena saw them finish on a score of 4 faults.
Fresh off the back of their outstanding double clear in the Nations Cup competition yesterday, Ben Maher and the 12-year-old Faltic HB, owned by Oakingham Stud, delivered an effortless clear in the first round to head through to the jump off where they were drawn last to go. However, a slight rub of the first fence put them out of contention for the victory to take their 3rd place in the line up.
