British Showjumping Data Protection Update

British Showjumping reported a breach of the Data Protection Act 1998 to the Regulator, Information Commissioner’s Office in December 2014.

Whilst we recognise as a Data Controller there is no legal obligation to report any contravention of the Data Protection Act 1998 to the Regulator, British Showjumping took the decision that we would report the breach and work with the Regulator and our Data Protection Team at Wright Hassall LLP.

As a result of reporting the breach, British Showjumping agreed and signed an undertaking to comply with the Seventh Data Protection Principle in August 2015.

Since the breach all of our teams have worked closely with our Data Protection Director, Paula Tighe, Wright Hassall LLP and her team. We have undertaken data protection training and applied new governance controls as a direct result of the breach. We shall continue to develop our training and governance controls across each of our membership service areas and keep our members informed.
