Alex Deighton & Ochil Star Ride Away with the NAF Horse Five Star Final

The NAF Horse Five Star Final was showcased in the All Weather Arena 2 at the British Showjumping National Championships and Stoneleigh Horse Show 2015 on Friday and the selection of competitors was made up of full, associate or junior members who have gained their 3*, 4*, or 5* award in the NAF Horse Five Star Performance Awards Programme.

The mixture of skill and ability of the combinations made for an interesting event today with a group of 3*, 4* and 5* partnerships battling it out for the top spot. After a superb round, it was Alex Deighton from Sunderland, Tyne & Wear with her own 13 year-old bay mare Ochil Star who took home the title with a double clear in an impressive time of 31.62 seconds.

The talented combination have been training hard to achieve success in the programme, Alex said she was extremely pleased with the performance “I feel really good and she jumped amazing, I felt she was a bit sluggish in the warm up but we came into the ring and she really stepped up, I’m really impressed with her”.

Alex also said “When I warm up I always focus on her turns, so I jump the fence, turn her really sharp and then she can quickly pick up to cover the distances.”

Alex’s perseverance has clearly paid off as she finished in front of several 5* combinations and is only herself a 3*. Following her success here at the British Showjumping National Championships and Stoneleigh Horse Show, Alex hopes to go on to continue to 5* with Ochil Star.

Alex said “It’s nice to take a horse out where you can come to a venue like this with a big atmosphere and she just focuses on her job.” With 5* ranking clearly in sight, there seems to be no stopping Alex and Ochil Star.
