Alena Hughes leads the Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Second Round at South View Equestrian Centre

The next Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Second Round took place on Saturday at South View Equestrian Centre in Wettenhall, Cheshire and it was Alena Hughes who put in the winning performance against seventy-five keen competitors.

Each and every rider was aiming to secure one of the two Horse of the Year Show tickets on offer for this October’s Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Championship Final and after two nail biting rounds it came down to just ten combinations in the final jump off.

Twelve year-old Alena from Doncaster put in a great performance on board Victoria Hughes’ 10 year-old roan mare, Alenas Ennistymon, to finish in first place. Demonstrating the true trust they had in one another, the combination rode a brave jump off that was fast and precise and proved hard to beat, crossing the finish line well ahead of the competition in 34.01 seconds.

The riders and ponies that finished in third to fifth took home the chance to compete in the Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Masters at the British Showjumping National Championships.
