British Showjumping National Championships 2025 -Day 5

It’s been an action-packed day at the British Showjumping National Championships, with some heart-racing jump-offs and another double championship win!

Hollie Gerken and Livewire VI produced the only double clear to become the National 148cm Champion in the Sytner Land Rover Coventry Championship Arena.

Talking about her pony Hollie says: “It’s amazing, she’s only 9 years old, so it feels amazing today to win, she’s so talented.” Having won three pony finals at HOYS last year, she says: "I had an amazing year at HOYS last year, so hopefully the same again."

In the Unibed Championship Arena we crowned the new STX UK Pony Foxhunter Masters Champion - Ella Spencer with Rouet Rouge. Having already qualified for HOYS, Ella returned to the ring with confidence and secured the win by 2.9 seconds. She said: "I'm really happy with how he jumped. I didn't have to go too fast in the jump-off, which was quite nice."

Looking ahead to October, Ella added: "I'm really excited to be going to Horse of the Year Show this year. He was second and third there last year, so it would be really nice to win this time."

Ella also claimed second place in the 148cm Championship Final, rounding off an incredible day of results.

We saw another top-class jump off in the Pony Silver League 148cm & Under Final - Kate Anderson and Off Limits III took the lead of the 11 strong jump off by 2.39 seconds. When asked how it feels to win Kate said: "I can't describe the feeling, it doesn't feel real yet."

She followed up with: "The person that went in before me was really fast and I didn't know whether I was going to do one turn, but then she did it and then my mum just said before I go in - you may as well, you only have one chance at it, just go and do your best."

It was a close call in the Bronze League 148cm & Under Final, with less than 3 seconds separating the top five. Lola Batch clinched the win with 12-year-old Oh Reilly, crossing the line just 0.23 seconds ahead of Katie Mellish and Dulk Du Thym.

Lola described her pony as “so, so amazing.” Her mindset going into the jump-off? “Just go for it, try my hardest, and what happens, happens” - and it clearly paid off.

What an afternoon for Felicity Ashcroft – she stormed to success in not one, but two finals - taking the Springboard 128cm Championship Final with 17-year-old Trefriw Erosin for the second year in a row, and then going on to be crowned Bronze League 128cm & Under Champion on the 22-year-old “speed demon”, Parc Creme Brulee after a lightning-fast jump-off.

In the Bronze League 128cm Final, 22 combinations made it through to the jump-off, with the top eight finishing within just 2 seconds of each other — and Felicity snatching the win by just 0.28 seconds. She said: "I wasn't expecting to win both of them, but it feels really good!

We closed the pen-ultimate day at the British Showjumping National Championships with another thrilling jump-off in the Bronze League 138cm & Under Final. With 18 combinations jumping off, producing 14 double clears, and just over 2 seconds separating the top five - the pressure was on!

The challenge was accepted by Eleanor Bastian-Mason & Ballytrasna II, and they rose to the occasion clinching the win in style with a 0.41 second lead. Eleanor said: "It's really exciting, he's a great pony and he's fast and does great turns." Her plan for the jump off? “Just got for it and turn really tight.” – that surely paid off for the speedy duo.

From double wins to lightning-fast jump-offs, today had it all. Best of luck to all riders tomorrow - let’s see what our final day has in store
