Tuesday 05 August 2025

Emma Jo Slater dominates day one of the British National Championships, in Sytner Land Rover Coventry Championship Arena 1 and Unibed Championship Arena 2, taking the title for three championships as well as a second place.
She won the Senior British Novice Championship Final on her 6-year-old Chacala Blue. Partnering her 9 year old Kimba Time, she clinched the National Senior Rider Championship Final followed by the National 1.15m Members Cup Championship Final, where she was also second on Fleur Du Logis.
Following her third win, Emma said: “I didn’t expect any of that, to win one final is amazing enough, but to win three is amazing, the best.”
Kimba Time, owned by Kim Barzilay is a home bred mare out of a mare they had called Jessica Du Warchet. Kim said “She [Jessica Du Warchet] has been the mother of so many of our good horses, and she [Kimba Time] stays with us, because she’s the only filly she ever had, so she will stay and have babies one day.”
Emma’s tip for jump off’s is “go fast and try your best to win”, and she certainly did that today.
The Horse of the Year Show International Wild Card Qualifier Incorporating the National 1.40m Championship was taken by Joseph Trunkfield riding his 8-year-old Corvette VH Reukenis Z, following a successful summer, this combination has qualified for 3 classes already at HOYS.
Joe said: “I was second to go in the jump off, an early draw with some fast ones behind us, so it was just full hammer really.”
Lauren Holly Roach and her 9-year-old mare Louisiana-S won the National Grade C Championship Final. Lauren was really pleased with her as she has not long stepped up to under 25s.
“I’m very happy with the mare, she jumped really well and now we are saving her for the Foxhunter Masters” said Lauren.
The final class of the day went to Newcastle based Charlotte Ash, who was “over the moon” with her home bred mare, Cali Star, out of Big Star in the National Grade B Championship Final.
Charlotte said: “She’s very sassy and feisty and hot headed so it takes a while to slow the head down a little bit, but she jumped phenomenal today and I couldn’t be more pleased with her.”
