William Sheret MBE - 03/10/28 to 18/04/25

It is with great sadness that British Showjumping Scotland announces that William Sheret MBE passed away on 18th April.
Willie was one of Scottish Showjumpings most loved and respected equestrians. Originally from Glasgow, he's been involved in showjumping for over 80 years.
He was honoured by Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace in 2005 for Services to Showjumping in Scotland, becoming Most Excellent Order of the British Empire; an honour given by Her Majesty to people for special achievement. He also served as Honorary Vice President of the British Showjumping Association’s Scottish Branch.
His career developed when he represented the army throughout Europe just after WWII. From there he went on to reach a career high of winning the Foxhunter Championship in 1975 at the Horse of the Year Show on St Corry and he trained a number of horses that competed at the Olympic Games. He continued to compete until he was 70 years of age and was a highly respected coach, teaching all over the UK.
Willie was a well known face at the Royal Highland Show first as a competitor, secondly as a gate steward and in his twilight years a Sponsor.
In September 2016 he launched his showjumping teaching philosophy book Keep Going Clear: A Guide to Better Showjumping on Amazon with his good friend and Olympic showjumper Geoff Billington writing his foreword.
Our thoughts are with Diane, David and Willie’s extended family through this very difficult time, he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
The family has asked to warmly invite, on their behalf, all who wish to pay their respects to attend the funeral service for Willie, which will be held at Clydebank Crematorium, Mountblow Road, Clydebank, Glasgow G81 4SL, on Friday, 2nd May 2025, at 14:30.
Following the service, family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance and celebration of Willie’s life, which will take place at Ingliston Estate & Country Club, Old Greenock Road, Bishopton PA7 5PA, in the Solerno Suite.
