MARK MCGOWAN EVENING – HIGHLANDS & ISLANDS ACADEMY

A fabulous evening was held at Broomhill EC in Fortrose organised by the Highlands & Islands Academy with International Course Designer Mark McGowan on Friday 10th February 2023.

With forty participants taking part, the evening encompassed discussions on building safe, flowing courses for all abilities, the techniques and processes behind designing a basic course and how to design a course in smaller arenas.

Mark also inspired everyone reminiscing on his own experiences over the years, how he got started in Course Designing, up to building the million-dollar Grand Prix at Palm Springs in California. With some fun stories about his own Showjumping adventures along the way.

The participants then built a course with Mark’s direction, creating a lovely flowing course to finish the evening.

Thank you to Mark McGowan for making the journey north to the Highlands, thank you to Broomhill EC for the use of their venue and supplying tea, coffee and lovely cakes, and Maggie Wylie for the use of her jumps. Thank you to Maree Hallyburton, Area Rep & Training Coordinator for organising the bookings and ensuring everything was in place for the event.
