TWO OUT OF THREE IN HAGEN GRAND PRIX

The Junior 1.40m Grand Prix in Hagen (Germany) saw two of Great Britain’s Team Tretorn riders take second and third place this afternoon in the main arena at the Future Champions show.

The Grand Prix saw fifty four starters tackle the course spanning over ten Nations but it was only three of them that managed to jump clear in the first round, two of whom were British. The first clear of the competition was produced by our own eighteen year old Spencer Roe from Lincolnshire with his mother’s bay gelding Wonder Why. A clear round that was a long time coming as he was drawn twenty first to go and with many competitors notching up a high number of faults before him it must have left some wondering whether a clear round would ever be forthcoming.
The catalogue of faults that had gone before him continued through to the penultimate competitor, Frank Schuttert from the Netherlands who then produced the second clear of the competition ensuring a jump off. But this was shortly followed by the last competitor to jump, our own eighteen year old Yazmin Pinchen from West Sussex with the eight year old chestnut mare Van de Vivaldi.
The second round saw the three riders pushing against the clock whilst also going for a clear, however both Spencer and Yazmin incurred an unfortunate eight faults apiece. It was Frank Schuttert who produced the lucrative double clear of the competition relegating Great Britain to the second and third places. With both our riders incurring the same faults, the placings were decided on time with Spencer being just over a second up on time over Yazmin securing himself second place.
An extremely tough competition, with a good and solid delivery from Great Britain especially bearing in mind the high number of riders from such a large and established international field that incurred faults.

Tomorrow will see both the Pony and Young Rider Grand Prix’s take place. For further information please visit www.psi-events.de where start lists and full results can be found.
