‘TEAM CHAMPION’ SHARE FIFTH SPOT IN ST GALLEN
Friday 05 June 2009

The British Team has shared fifth place with The Netherlands, at the Meydan FEI Nations Cup in St Gallen, Switzerland this afternoon.
After a disappointing start which saw British pathfinder Nick Skelton part company from Beverly Widdowson’s Nemo 119, Derek Ricketts’ squad dug deep to produce a solid performance and secure vital points to move them into sixth place on the leaderboard.
Robert Smith riding Sharon Baldwin’s Vangelis S lowered just two fences in the first round, he was followed by foot perfect clear rounds from Peter Charles with Olga White’s Pom d’Ami and Ben Maher with his own and Quainton Stud’s Robin Hood W.
The second round saw a turn of fortune for Nick who came back from his first round elimination to lower a single pole and accrue one time fault. Faultless rounds from Robert and Ben and a very unlucky four faults from Peter meant the British quartet shared fifth place with The Netherlands, finishing on a total score of 12.
After an exciting jump off, victory once again went to the ‘in form’ American squad, emulating their win in Rome just seven days ago. Germany had to settle for second with home nation Switzerland and Belgium sharing third. France and Sweden were forced to watch the second round from the sidelines.
