Scylla D’Ouilly stands out at Sykehouse in the KBIS Insurance British Novice Second Round

Sykehouse Arena near Doncaster held a KBIS Insurance British Novice second round this weekend which saw two competitors qualify for the Cushionbed British Showjumping Scope Festival 2011.

With forty nine starters competing round the up to height course build by Median Course Designer Barry Goodwin the competition saw some good jumping. Twenty one combinations jumped double clear to fight it out in the final jump off which saw Derbyshire based Joanna Smyth take the top spot. Riding her own five year old grey mare Scylla D’Ouilly who a member of the Showjumping Equine Pathway, Joanna jumped clear in an unbeatable jump off time of 33.70 seconds picking up the first Cushionbed British Showjumping Scope Festival qualification.
Not far behind Joanna was Cumbria based seventeen year old Helena Leal Pedrosa riding her own six year old bay gelding Abadan. Jumping a superb clear in a time of 35.19 seconds was good enough to hold onto second place and take the second and final Cushionbed British Showjumping Scope Festival qualification ticket.

Putting in a good performance but just 0.74 seconds off the pace was fifteen year old Georgina Randall riding her mother’s (Frances) ten year old grey gelding Simply Softie. Jumping clear in time of 35.93 seconds put Georgina into third place just outside the qualifying position.

The Cushionbed British Showjumping Scope Festival 2011 will take place from Sunday 28th August to Saturday 3rd September at Stafford County Showground.
