Robert Maguire Takes the Top Spot in Last Horse & Hound Senior Foxhunter Second Round
Thursday 06 August 2015
Robert Maguire from Wigan, Lancashire secured his place in the Horse & Hound Foxhunter Championship after taking victory in the last Horse & Hound Senior Foxhunter Second Round at the British Showjumping Lancashire Area Show.
Forty-four competitors came forward hoping to pick up one of the two tickets available for the prestigious Championship at Horse of the Year Show. Only seven progressed as far as the third and final round after having jumped clear in the previous two.
Robert with his own 8 year-old bay mare Anastasia Van De Helle produced the fastest treble clear of the class after stopping the clock in 43.81 seconds. Drawn as the penultimate combination to go in the jump off, Robert used the draw to his advantage to eventually finish with nearly 3 seconds in hand.
Taking second place in the line-up was Mark Turnbull who made the journey down from Dunfermline, Fife with his own and Mary Turnbull’s 8 year-old chestnut gelding Cartouch III. Producing the first treble clear of the class, Mark held onto his qualification place after delivering a time of 46.57 seconds.
With the two direct qualifying tickets for the Horse & Hound Senior Foxhunter Championship Final already allocated, the combinations in third to fifth took home the chance to compete in the Horse & Hound Senior Foxhunter Masters at the British Showjumping National Championships next week.
