Rachel Proudley seizes victory in the British Horse Feeds Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C at The Rookery Equine Cheshire Horse Show

Rachel Proudley judged her jump-off round perfectly to land the top spot in the British Horse Feeds Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Qualifier at The Rookery Equine Cheshire Horse Show, Knutsford, with Edwin Cumberland's C Rouet Du Darco Z.

The win marks their second national finalist place at the prestigious Horse of the Year Show, the pair claimed their Foxhunter Championship ticket at Stainsby Grange three weeks earlier.

The field of 36 competitors faced a 1.35m course on the brilliant green turf in the main arena and 12 supplied initial clears to join the jump-off.  Rachel made the most of the Cidane x Baloubet Du Rouet 8-year-old’s stride to smoothly ride into the top spot by 3.37 seconds.

“He loves his job and lights up in the ring but most of all, he loves jumping on grass and the more you dare him, the more he likes it,” said Whitby, North Yorkshire-based Rachel, 17. “When I went in [to the ring] there was only one steady clear so I aimed to do a nice round and leave all the fences up but he has such a big stride and is very quick across the ground.  He’s also very careful so I can trust him to gallop, he loves a long run to a fence.”

The pair have now set their sights on qualifying for the HOYS Talent Seeker Final.

Hannah Bate claimed the other two coveted HOYS places, taking second on Hannah Van De Kapel and third with Kingfisher VI.
