Plevin British Showjumping Scope Festival 2012 – Thursday Round Up
Friday 31 August 2012
Hot and exciting finals saw new champions take their lap of honour on day five at Stafford showground.
Kerry Brennan had already tasted success in the Tri-Zone Airlite Discovery Championship with Vermillion on the first day. Four days later, she took a second title with the Hopkinson National Under 21 title on Wellington M, her early lead proving unbeatable.
Zoe Adams made a last-ditch challenge with the multi-tasking Satonamillion – winner of the Bolesworth eventing grand prix – but she could only come within 1.07 seconds to take second.
Only five reached the Pegasus Seven-year-old Championship jump-off, with Tim Davies landing the title on Jessica Tillett’s Alure III.
“The track was big but he skipped round” said Tim, who will contend the HOYS Grade C and Addington Seven-year-old with this son of Riverman.
The eye-catching stallion Dartbreaker impressed judges Andrew Hamilton, Tracy Newman and Gillian Catlow to head the Elite Stallions Four-year-old Championship.
The Heartbreaker son, owned by Samantha Middleton, proved consistent in scope and rideability over two rounds to take the title.
Hayley Webster ensured her trip from the Isle of Wight was worthwhile with the final championship of the night. She took the Halsall Electrical Grade B title riding her home-produced British-bred Trevoulter Lady Utah.
Tim Page challenged but failed to catch the speedy pair on Steady The Helm for second.
A flying Kerry Grimster seized the Smarter Training Group national 1.15m title as All Rise matched her fervour.
This 11-year-old mare, a HOYS amateur contender, has got form here in previous years with victories in the Katherine James Novice and the Cats and Pipes Pairs Challenge.
Amy Morton and Ziezo V returned triumphant in the Katherine James 1m Novice.
“She’s very hot and sharp, but loves jumping” said Amy, who works at Myerscough College and trains with Nigel Coupe.
Determined nine-year-old Sandy McLean registered his first Plevin British Showjumping Scope Festival Championship win with the Graham Heath Construction 128cm primary title on Madonna.
Only two jump-off clears were produced, with second going to sponsor’s daughter Bobbie Heath and Red Alert III.
There was a further treat in store for all 128cm and 138cm competitors – they got to hold an Olympic Gold Medal as they posed for photographs with Olympian Peter Charles.
Faye Adams has quickly established a partnership with new ride Dycott Masterman as the new partnership clinched the 138cm primary.
Lucy Carver was just a fraction behind for second on Shamen Sundance.
Jared Lunn had cause for double celebrations. The Essex-based rider claimed victory in the Peace Love World Pony Adventurer on his birthday with new ride Lahinch Katie. They beat Millie Allen and Unorthodox Blue by three seconds.
