Paul Barker wins the Connolly’s RED MILLS Senior Newcomers Second Round at the North Yorkshire Area Show

The first Connolly’s RED MILLS Senior Newcomers Second Round of the season took place at the North Yorkshire Area Show on Saturday, bringing together seventy-two keen competitors with Paul Barker making his way into top spot.
With only two qualification spots on offer for the Connolly’s RED MILLS Senior Newcomers Championship Final, which will be held during this October’s Horse of the Year Show, each combinations had their sights set on crossing the finish line with a treble clear.
The first two rounds saw competitors whittled down until seventeen talented combinations were left to go head to head against the clock in the final jump off.
Local rider Paul Barker from Northallerton, North Yorkshire jumped in to first place on board Gait L, a 7 year-old bay gelding owned by John Steels. This combination had proved to be consistent in the first two rounds and really picked up the pace in the final jump off to cross the finish line with all the fences standing in 42.06 seconds.
The riders and horses that finished in third to fifth took home the chance to compete in the Connolly’s RED MILLS Senior Newcomers Masters at the British Showjumping National Championships.

The Horse of the Year Show 2018 will take place from the 3rd – 7th October at Birmingham’s NEC. The British Showjumping National Championships 2018 will take place during the 7th – 12th August at the National Agricultural and Exhibition Centre (NAEC), Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire.
