Oliver Davies Takes the Top Spot in the Dodson & Horrell 0.85m National Amateur Second Round at Wick St Lawrence Show

Oliver Davies from Newport, Gwent took the Dodson & Horrell 0.85m National Amateur Second Round at Wick St Lawrence Show in Somerset by storm yesterday when he sailed into first place.

A field of seventeen talented riders took to the arena, all with the aim of gaining one of the twelve qualifying places on offer for the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Championships which will be held at Aintree Equestrian Centre in Liverpool between the 16th – 20th November.

Oliver rode straight into first place from his middle order draw. Riding his own 14 year-old bay gelding Rathturtin, Oliver was the second fastest in the first round and he managed to keep this form to ride a scorching round to take him straight to the top of the jump off. The pair delivered their double clear in 31.64 seconds.

Second place was snapped up by Phoebe Sealey from Burnham-on-Sea, Somerset riding her own 15 year-old piebald gelding Santox. Following Oliver in the draw, Phoebe snapped at his heels when she produced her second double clear in 31.69 seconds.

Emily Scammell from Exeter, Devon made her journey worthwhile as she rode into third place on board her own 11 year-old bay mare Fin Fleur VD Thijshoeve. This combination crossed the finish line with their double clear in 41.34 seconds.
