Nicole Pavitt lifts the Events Through A Lens Talent Seeker incorporating the 7-year-old Championship Qualifier at Codham Park

Nicole Pavitt (pictured on second ride) secured victory in the Events Through A Lens Talent Seeker incorporating the 7-year-old Championship Qualifier at Codham Park in Braintree, Essex, with Loughan Special.

A total of 54 competitors came forward over a course starting at a height of 1.30m with 32 supplying initial clears. Two opted to withdraw at this point to leave 30 contending a hot, competitive jump-off, several – including Nicole – claiming two chances apiece.

Nicole found the shortest route on Matthew Pike’s Loughan Special, an Irish-bred 10-year-old mare she has ridden for the past 10 weeks, forging ahead to win by 0.53 seconds.

“I was second to go and got a flyer to the first fence and a very good turnback to the second – it’s where we got the win,” said Nicole.  “She’s special and a chestnut mare but she’s easy as long as we go her way; she’s very quick and careful and doesn’t like too many ‘pulls’ [for an extra stride] so the course suited her.”

A trip to Europe culminated in consistent places in 2* and 3* 1.35m classes.

“I competed her a couple of times before we headed out to France where I got to grips with her in Royan. Hopefully, I’ll jump a few world ranking classes with her, that’s the plan, and after HOYS we’ll go to Portugal for four weeks – then, we’ll see where she’s at,” added Nicole.

Ronnie Lee Jones eased the eye-catching 8-year-old stallion Key West III (Tangelo Van De Zuuthoeve x Phon Phin) into second place and John Crippen guided Bennys Kelly into third to claim the top 7-year-old place.  Chloe Winchester claimed fourth and the final HOYS qualifying place on offer with the Quasimodo VD Molendreef x Chin Chin 9-year-old Jupiter PX.
