Nicole Lockhead Anderson speeds to a win in the British Horse Feeds Speedi-Beet HOYS grade C Qualifier at South of England

Nicole Lockhead Anderson sped to the top of the British Horse Feeds Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Qualifier with Tom Williams’ Conthargo PS at South of England Show, Ardingly, Sussex.

Sixty competitors came forward over a course that started at 1.35m on the lovely green turf in the vast main arena and 14 posted initial clear rounds to qualify for the jump-off. It was all about the clock as riders chased the three coveted HOYS qualifying places on offer and, with five double clears recorded, it was who dares, wins.

There was never any doubt as Nicole set off and maintained a determined pace, making short work of the open distances and tight turns to claim the win by 3.33 seconds.

“I was early to go so I went in and stuck to my plan. I love him, he’s very fast and very careful, I’m very lucky to get to ride him,” said Nicole, who has only competed the Conthargos x Centadel seven-year-old since the beginning of April.

This will be the second HOYS ticket the recently new partnership have snared – they are already through to the Talent Seeker Final.

“He’s a big character with a cheeky personality, he loves his job and is always looking for the next fence – he knows he’s good,” added Nicole. “The course suited, it was nice and flowing and he’s naturally fast across the ground, and he doesn’t like knocking the jumps down. He’s one for the future and a good asset to the string.”

Chloe Winchester eased the Irish-bred 7-year-old mare Tisara Quality Cruise into second and Lucy Townley picked up the third and final qualifying position with the Billy Congo x Billy Mexico 7-year-old Billy Hustle.
