Millie makes her mark on the Squibb Demolition Foxhunter Second Round
Tuesday 26 July 2011

The Wales and West Home Pony International show held at the David Broome Event Centre took place over the weekend with Sunday playing host to a Squibb Demolition Pony Foxhunter second round. With pony riders travelling across the country to attend, the competition for the three Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) tickets up for grabs was fierce.
Following on from her success at Arena UK thirteen year old Millie Allen from Cleveland notched up another win. Again riding the eight year old bay mare Song Girl owned by her father Peter, Millie showed experience beyond her years jumping three clears in a jump off time of 42.42 seconds.
The only other treble clear and therefore second place was West Sussex based Callum Tusler. Fourteen year old Callum was riding his mother’s (Fiona) ten year old black mare Filkins Final Mission. Coming home in a time of 54.15 seconds Callum took the first HOYS ticket and qualified for Cushionbed British Showjumping Scope Festival.
Lowering just one fence in the third round in a jump off time of 48.05 seconds was fourteen year old Hannah Tiley from West Sussex. Riding her mother’s (Simonne) eight year old appaloosa gelding Soundcat, Hannah picked up third place and the second HOYS ticket.
With only three combinations making it into the third round, fourth place went to Oxfordshire based Anna Wilks. Riding her mother’s (Caroline) nine year old roan gelding Monbeg Hero Anna jumped with just one fence down in the second round, coming home in 49.69 seconds to take fourth place and the final HOYS ticket.
Fifth place was sixteen year old Daisy Hughes from Oxon riding her mothers (Gillian) eight year old grey gelding Greenacres Bobby. They were the only other combination to jump the first round clear to make it into the second round guaranteeing them qualification for the Cushionbed British Showjumping Scope Festival.
With one more Cushionbed British Showjumping Scope Festival ticket up for grabs and sixth placed pony/rider combination of Fern Pickard and Michaela Irelands seven year old Manninard Seabird already qualified this passed down the line to seventh place. Therefore it was sixteen year old Victoria Hewson from Fife who picked up that position and the chance to qualify for HOYS at the Cushionbed British Showjumping Scope Festival. Riding her father’s (Adrian) eight year old dun mare Midnight Minuet Victoria just lowered one pole in the first round in 80.67 seconds to take seventh place and the final qualification ticket.
The 2011 Horse of the Year Show will take place between the 4th and 9th October at Birmingham’s NEC.
The 2011 Cushionbed British Showjumping Scope Festival will take place from Sunday 28th August to Saturday 3rd September at the Stafford County Showground.
