This weekend marked the third Redpost Equestrian Senior Foxhunter Second Round, held at Southview Equestrian. Riders competed in three rounds aiming for a coveted ticket to the Horse of the Year Show Final in October.
With 34 horses and riders in contention, it was all to play for. Only eight combinations successfully cleared the initial two rounds to advance to the jump-off. In this final stage, only four riders cleared the course to contend for top spot. Michaela Scott, riding Sam Scott's Eddie G Z, clinched the lead with an impressive time of 47.22, securing their ticket to the Redpost Equestrian Senior Foxhunter Championship Final.
Reflecting on her victory, Michaela expressed admiration for Eddie G Z's performance: "He is just incredible, every time you ask a question, he always answers it. We went to HOYS last year and jumped three finals, but this Foxhunter Final has always been a dream of mine, and I've never managed to get there the whole time I've been riding."
Michaela and Eddie G Z have maintained a consistent record together, but she noted a recent improvement: "I've had him since he was a 3-year-old, so I've done everything with him. He was a slow burner as a 4 & 5-year-old because he's so careful. The back end of last year is the first time I've actually asked him to be competitive, and he's just answered me. It's like he's read the script! It's all just clicked, and since then, he has continued to step up."
Prior to the weekend's class, Michaela mentioned their recent participation in a ranking Grand Prix at Chard, which boosted her confidence for the final round. Noting “It really helped make the last round at the weekend feel more doable, I was more confident to be competitive. He conserves his energy really well in the warm up, then goes into the ring and just lights up, he knows his job.”
