Lucky Katie Robinson seizes victory in the NAF Five Star Summer Silver League Qualifier at Field House Equestrian Centre
Tuesday 27 June 2023

Katie Robinson took her first step to return to HOYS, winning a competitive NAF Five Star Summer Silver League Qualifier by a tiny fraction on Lucky 3 at Field House Equestrian Centre in Marchington, Staffordshire.
Katie, 19, won the NAF Five Star Summer Bronze League Championship at HOYS last year with Mervs Thanks A Million and has since stepped up with the Silver League title now in her sights with Lucky 3, a ride she got last October.
“We’ve been going well and as we got into the top 10 of the Winter League, I thought I’d give the Summer League a go,” said Katie, who is based in Buckingham.
A total of 43 competitors faced the 1.15m course and 34 found all the right answers to claim a place in round two. The raised track reduced them to 21 for the third and final round against the clock. The jump-off proved as hot as the weather, Katie negotiating all the tight lines to edge ahead by only 0.08 seconds with the 15-year-old German-bred mare Lucky.
“I was drawn early on my first horse [Thanks A Million] and went for a clear but lots of clears followed and we were pushed down the order; Dad said 'I had to go for it’,” said Katie. “There was only five to go after me, it was a nervous wait to see if we’d won.”
Katie finds Lucky is: “A dream on the ground and loves fuss but she needs confidence from her rider, she’s hesitant without support but if I say, ‘C’mon, we’re doing this’, she loves it,” she said. “It’s all down to my boyfriend Jake and dad Scott – he’s the truck driver and I couldn’t do this without them.”
McKenzie Snowden had to settle for second place on Little Man IV and Emily Mould eased French Sensation into third.
