Louise Saywell lands Winter Grand Prix victory at Arena UK

Louise Saywell from Retford, Nottinghamshire fought off the challenge from a number of other competitors on Saturday to land victory in the Winter Grand Prix at Arena UK on board Michael Elvin’s PLS Halo Diamond.

Twenty-three combinations took on the technical track designed by Mark McGowan and just six were able to access the jump off. Three of those in the jump off secured a double clear and just one went on to deliver this result in sub 40.00 seconds.

Louise Saywell has had the ride on PLS Halo Diamond since May of this year and she produced two brilliant rounds on Saturday to take the win in 39.37 seconds. Louise’s turn of pace on the 11 year-old bay gelding saw them break the 40.00 seconds barrier and their time gave the pairing 2.58 seconds in hand.

Zoe Smith picked up second place on Que Sera III, an 11 year-old bay gelding owned by Amanda Mcglynn after they crossed the finish line with a double clear in 41.95 seconds. Third place was taken by Phillip Miller on Darona, an 11 year-old grey gelding owned by Diana and Pennie Cornish. This partnership secured the third and final double clear of the class in 42.63 seconds.
