John Whitaker heads a 1-2-3 British line up at Olympia this evening

Sunday 17 December 2017

The ever popular and globally renowned British rider John Whitaker was in incredible form at Olympia, the London International Horse Show this evening when he took pole position in the Ivy Stakes ahead of fellow team mates Ben Maher and Laura Renwick.

Riding his own and wife Clare’s 15 year-old stallion Argento, John posted an incredibly fast second round clear to break the finish line in 33.17 seconds and claim  both the top spot and the lion share of the prize money on offer.

Ben Maher with the talented 10 year-old Madam X, owned by Poden Farms, just couldn’t catch John despite their fast footed round. Stopping the clock in 34.14 seconds saw them relegated to 2nd place despite their fast and forward paced performance.

Making it a British 1-2-3 was Laura Renwick with the 9 year-old MHS Washington whom she owns jointly with husband John.  Posting the only other double clear of the competition, their time of 35.39 seconds saw them finish in 3rd place with Kevin Staut (FRA) taking 4th with Through the Looking Glass.

It was certainly a hard fought class with twenty nine competitors coming forward to contest the title of the 1.50m class which certainly took a number of prisoners with only six managing to achieve a clear in the first round.
