Joe Trunkfield lands the top HOYS ticket in the Events Through A Lens Talent Seeker incorporating the 7-year-old qualifier at Wales and West

Joe Trunkfield hit top form and top speed to take victory in the Events Through A Lens Talent Seeker incorporating the 7-year-old for a coveted pass to HOYS with Oh La La Van Overis at Wales and West’s popular Second Rounds Show in Chepstow.
A big entry of 99 came forward over course-designer Colm Quinn’s 13-fence track starting at 1.30m with 17 qualifying for a hot jump-off. Times became progressively quicker and it was a ‘Who dares, Wins’ scenario as riders risked tighter turns at speed to take the four HOYS places on offer.
Joe used his 11th draw to fire the Tangelo Van De Zuuthoeve x Udarco Van Overis 9-year-old Oh La La into the top spot by 0.98 sec.
“The course was big and difficult with a lot of entries and it ended up a fast class but it was about jumping as well as a careful horse was needed, the final vertical caught a lot out. This is a good class for her as, although she’s 9, she didn’t start until she was 7 as she was breeding. She has plenty of blood and she’s getting settled into her job, the big aim now is to step up to area trials and world ranking classes,” said Joe.
Allana Clutterbuck claimed second on Michael Bates’ home-bred Nectar Des Roches 10-year-old Dirk IV with Nicole Lockhead Anderson galloping into third on Conthargos gelding Conthargo PS to take the seven-year-old place.
Leo Lamb, also on a seven-year-old and a participant in this year’s Gold Development Programme, claimed fourth and set a new record by claiming three HOYS finalist tickets in three days on the same horse at this venue. The super-consistent Gmail (Cornet Obolensky x Diamant De Semilly), also qualified for the HOYS Newcomers and won the Foxhunter second round.
