Holly Smith and Denver claim the top spot in the CSI3* 1.50m Grand Prix in Vilamoura

Holly Smith from Loughborough, Leicestershire took the win in the CSI3* 1.50m Grand Prix in Vilamoura, Spain yesterday with Ian Dowie’s Denver, an 11 year-old Dutch bred gelding by Memphis whom Holly started competing last month.
Forty-two combinations took part in yesterday afternoon’s Grand Prix held during the fourth week of the 2019 Vilamoura Champions Tour. Eleven of the initial starters jumped clear around the 1.50m first round track and six went on to keep a clean sheet in the jump-off.
Holly and the former event horse, Denver, posted the fastest round of the class stopping the clock in 34.57 seconds. Ireland’s Harry Marshall took the runners up place with Flambeau, the pair finished 1.79 seconds slower than Holly with a time of 36.36 seconds. Just a fraction behind that time was Great Britain’s James Smith. He piloted the 10 year-old grey gelding Simply Splendid into third posting a time of 36.81 seconds. Charlene Bastone also flew the flag for GB finishing in sixth place with Sanlou.
