Hannah Barker and Elsie Jacques take the top spot in the Charles Britton Equestrian Construction Winter JA Classic Qualifiers at Morris Equestrian Centre

The Charles Britton Equestrian Construction Winter JA Classic Qualifiers headed up to Scotland last weekend and ran at Morris Equestrian Centre in Kilmarnock, East Ayrshire.

The qualifiers saw the top three combinations from each day land a qualifying place for the Charles Britton Equestrian Construction Winter JA Classic Championship which will be held at SouthView Competition & Training Centre in April.

Charles Britton Equestrian Construction Winter JA Classic Qualifier – Saturday 15th February 2020

A tough 1.30m first round track set by Course Designer Ian Clark whittled the initial starters down to three for the first jump-off on the first day of jumping and it was Hannah Barker from Northallerton, Yorkshire who emerged victorious.

Tabitha Kyle set a fast pace with Nightgirl Van Het Sonnishof but a pole down left the door open for the remaining two competitors. Hannah followed with the experienced 16 year-old gelding Ammanvalley Santino, owned by Lynn Barker. They produced a careful and precise round securing the all-important clear which put the pressure on last to go Jennifer Billington and Merlijn VD Bisschop. Hot off the back of their previous win in the Winter JA Classic at SouthView, Jennifer let off the handbrake but faulted mid-course leaving Hannah to claim the win without the need for a final jump-off.

Charles Britton Equestrian Construction Winter JA Classic Qualifier Results:

1st Hannah Barker & Ammanvalley Santino – 0/0 – 45.58 seconds
2nd Tabitha Kyle & Nightgirl Van Het Sonnishof - 0/4 – 43.11 seconds

3rd Jennifer Billington & Merlijn VD Bisschop - 0/4 – 43.13 seconds

NB: Qualifications will be updated pending official grading of results.

Tabitha Kyle and Jennifer Billington both featured again, this time on two different ponies. Tabitha steered Gangnam Style II into second place and Jennifer took third aboard Faith X. It was last-drawn Elsie Jacques from Loughborough, Leicestershire who stole the class with Danielle Piecha’s 13 year-old stallion Trevoulter Ladies Man. The pair kept a forward rhythm to cross the finish line in 34.15 seconds, 0.58 of a second quicker than second placed Tabitha.
