Great Britain’s Tretorn Young Rider’s Bring Home Team Bronze!

Friday 08 July 2011

Today saw the second round of the Young Rider European Championship Team competition take place in Comporta, Portugal. Securing Team Bronze with less than two fences between themselves and a Team Gold it was Jason Smith, Lucy Guild, George Whitaker and Dan Neilson who were all flying the flag high for Great Britain.
The course was a tough one and it saw many of the competitors incurring faults with only six clear rounds achieved across the eighty that were jumped.

It was
twenty year old Jason Smith from Kilmarnock who was Great Britain’s pathfinder riding Anne Smith’s fourteen year old bay gelding Rival 14 a horse which had partnered him in a previous Junior European Championship.

Second to jump for Great Britain was nineteen year old Lucy Guild from Fraserburgh with her own eleven year old dark bay gelding Titi D’Oase. This combination showed what a great partnership they have built over the past few years and jumped consistently in both rounds.

Following them was nineteen year old George Whitaker from Huddersfield who was making his debut at Young Rider level this year with Sally McSharry’s eleven year old chestnut mare Tubana.

Last to go was twenty one year old Dan Neilson from Brentwood with Celia Mason’s nine year old chestnut gelding Chauvinist whom has been with Dan for a number of years now with considerable success.
It was Belgium however who came out on top to take the Gold Medal finishing on a score of 23penalties followed by Switzerland on 25penalties with Great Britain finishing on 30penalties securing the Team Bronze.
