Erasmus VD Heffinck triumphs in the EquestrianClearance.com Newcomers second round.
Wednesday 29 June 2011

Warwickshire based show centre Weston Lawns Equitation held a five day summer spectacular show over the last weekend in June. Competitors travelled from across the country to take part in what proved to be an action packed week of competition.
Day three played host to the EquestrianClearance.com Newcomers second round where first and second placed riders picked up qualification for the Horse of the Year Show (HOYS), and the top five pick up qualification tickets for the Cushionbed British Showjumping Scope Festival.
With a hundred and twenty two starters the competition was fierce and Course Designer Steve Williams had his work cut out to filter through the competitors to get a good jump off. Doing just that round two saw eighteen combinations jump with only seven of those jump clear again to make the final jump off.
Making the journey down from Manchester was twenty four year old Danielle Jolliffe who partnered her own seven year old chestnut gelding Erasmus VD Heffinck. Drawn third to go in the seven horse jump off with no clears ahead of her Danielle put in a steady clear coming home in 46.70 seconds. This proved unbeatable and Danielle picked up first place along side qualification for HOYS and The Cushionbed British Showjumping Scope Festival.
Jumping the only other treble clear was West Yorkshire based Louise Redfearn who rode Tessa Wilkinson’s eight year old grey gelding Autumn Cruising. Drawn second from last to go Louise played safe and jumped a foot perfect clear in a steady time of 50.52 seconds which hung onto second place also qualifying her for HOYS and The Cushionbed British Showjumping Scope Festival.
Third position went to Lancashire based Sarah Duggan riding the eight year old bay gelding Lareeco owned by Andrew Davies and Christian Clarke-Tomlinson. Sarah jumped round in a quick time of 43.93 seconds but lowered just one pole for four faults.
Picking up the fourth qualification ticket for The Cushionbed British Showjumping Scope Festival was local rider Carron Nicol from Warwickshire. Riding her own six year old bay stallion Mr Visto this combination also had just one fence down for four faults in a jump off time of 47.03 seconds.
Fifth placed Alexdandra Coates from Somerset was riding her own Quisto Van De Helle Z who jumped round in a very quick time of 41.61 seconds but having two fences down left her on eight faults. This combination had previously qualified for The Cushionbed British Showjumping Scope Festival earlier in the month at Dorset Showground so their qualification passed down the line.
Six placed Anthony Condon riding Sue Davies Pewit Quinto had also previously qualified for The Cushionbed British Showjumping Scope Festival at Wales and West. This meant the final qualification went to David Reddan from Devon who rode Susie Gibson’s eight year old bay mare Baba J.
The final Cushionbed British Showjumping Scope Festival qualifying ticket went to Helen Treadwell. Helen having already qualified for HOYS in the Horse and Hound Foxhunter on Friday this time she partnered Mr Simon Davies six year old chestnut mare Abby III.
