Equine Influenza Update

Following a meeting with the Equine Infectious Disease Action Group where the increase in the reported Equine Influenza cases was discussed, it was shared that there have been reported cases in 36 counties across Scotland, England and Wales. It was agreed that there needed to be a period of increased vigilance and messaging to help prevent the situation becoming one where equine movement and the holding of gatherings or competitions become restricted.

To enable us to continue to run competition and training activities whilst safeguarding the welfare of horses all venues will be carrying out passport checks on arrival.

  • Ensure you have your horses passport before arriving at a BS venue

  • Vaccinations must have been carried out in accordance with our vaccination rules

  • Unvaccinated or horses with lapsed or incomplete vaccinations will not be allowed to unload and compete

  • Refunds will not be given in circumstances where vaccinations are not in accordance with our rules or where the passport is not with the horse

The EIDAG strongly recommend that all horses are moved to a 6 monthly vaccination programme to ensure optimal protection during this outbreak. If your horses last vaccination was more than 6 months ago, we strongly recommend that you bring their next booster forwards to give them the best protection during the outbreak.
