Donald Whitaker crowned winner of the Connolly’s RED MILLS Senior Newcomers Second Round at Wellington Riding Centre

Wellington Riding Centre in Hook, Hampshire played host to this week’s Connolly’s RED MILLS Senior Newcomers Second Round and it was Donald Whitaker who delivered a treble clear in fine style to be crowned the winner.

With only two qualification spots on offer for the Connolly’s RED MILLS Senior Newcomers Championship Final, which will be held during this October’s Horse of the Year Show, each of the sixty-two starters battled it out to cross the finish line with a treble clear.

The first two rounds saw competitors whittled down until twelve talented combinations were left to go head to head against the clock in the final jump off.

Making the journey all the way from Barnsley, South Yorkshire, Donald Whitaker rode three immaculate rounds on board Thomas Williams’ 6 year-old grey mare, Chilli, to finish in first place. In the final jump off, this pair kept their cool to jump a foot perfect round for a treble clear in just 37.80 seconds.

The riders and horses that finished in third to fifth took home the chance to compete in the Connolly’s RED MILLS Senior Newcomers Masters at the British Showjumping National Championships.
